FROM HARD TIME by Charles Dickens. A brief analysis by George D. Montero M.
Charles Dickens
Short Biography
A brief analysis by George D. Montero M.
Charles Dickens had a childhood of hardship. Born in Portsmouth on
England's southern coastal, Dickens had a generally unhappy childhood. His
father was sent to debtors' prison, and the boy was sent to a prison of his
own--a factory in which he worked long hours pasting labels. However, no writer
since Shakespeare has occupied as important a place in popular culture as
Charles Dickens. His novels have held a special appeal for critics and the
public alike. They have also been dramatized time and again in plays and films.
From HARD TIMES
Mr. Gradgrind's theory of education is very practice and I felt as if I
was experimenting the scene as if I was living the moment, because it made me
go inside the play and be part of it, by seeing and expecting each
intervention.
For Mr. Gradgrind the key to all learning is facts, facts, and facts. He
put in practice his methodology by facing the twenty girl with the facts of
definition about horses. The description of the children as "little
pitchers" reflects the importance of their knowledge into the society,
especially at the point of this moment.
The third gentleman is mathematician. He believes that facts are all of
everything. Hi thinks that people can learn easily by getting facts, nothing
else, but facts.
By the way of Blitzer and Sissy's performance, they were at same fight
but with the difference of facts and shiness. While Blitzer could answer the
question of Mr. Gradgrind, Sissy could not. Dickens expected that we symphatize
with Sissy, because she represent the softer person of the play.
Dickens wanted that the readers draw an imagery of facts' coherence in
the three adults of the classroom because the girl was supposed to know the
same facts that Bitzer knows about horses and other things. He also wanted that
readers to draw about the importance of education on the children, because it
will be the basis for their development in the future. Their habilities depend
on the knowledge they get form their childlife.
Education is the key of success, the fundament of all people's progress
around the world. Therefore, the education system is very important in all the
societies. In the way the education become effective to improve mentally the
human race, the better developments they reach in each single situation.

Biografia corta
un breve analisis por George D. Montero M. (Traduccion)
Charles Dickens
Sr. Gradgrind, Sissy no pudo.

I believe that people can achieve everything they set out to do in life, it only takes effort and dedication; and so like Dickens, it doesn't matter what we go through, what really matters is to have vision, to be better, to progress, and to go very far.
